Guest Lecture by Prof. Sanjay Patel

Prof. Sanjay Patel is an interventional cardiologist and internationally recognised researcher with more than 13 years of experience. As a researcher, he has authored 100+ peer-reviewed publications and attracted over $13 million in competitive funding for cardiovascular research, with a strong focus on therapies targeting the inflammation that drives coronary plaque instability.

He is currently co-leading multiple NHMRC-funded international trials of colchicine in heart attack, stroke, and long COVID-19.

Importantly, he is leading the COLCARDIO-ACS multicentre trial, conducted across 10 centres in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, University of Sydney. The site initiation visit for the centres in Sri Lanka was successfully completed in June 2025.

The Sri Lanka College of Cardiology and the Univeristy of kelaniya is hosting Prof. Sanjay Patel for a guest lecture.
