At present, we work with a local network of 46 trial sites spread across the country – tertiary care hospitals, primary healthcare facilities and university departments – in collaboration with more than 300 medical specialists. This makes the CTU – RemediumOne the largest collaborative clinical research centre in the country.

We have also provided clinical trial expertise to research-based biotechnology industry with other academic institutions through global clinical trial networks to develop new therapies. These have been in diverse therapeutic areas including diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stroke, breast cancer, rare diseases in nephrology as well as development of a tetravalent vaccine against dengue. Our expertise has contributed to protocol design and successful conduct of studies based on complex protocols. As a result, we are now recognized as a regional centre of excellence for clinical research and work closely with the global alliance for chronic disease.
Furthermore, the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM), University of Colombo has recognized research centres managed by the CTU – RemediumOne collaboration for hands-on training in clinical trials. At present, postgraduate students following programmes in Clinical Pharmacology are now placed in our study centres under the aegis of the CTU for training in clinical trial methodology. Academic staff in the Department of Pharmacology who provide scientific support to the work of the CTU have been included into steering committees of major global studies in recognition of their domain expertise.
