Counting the Dead to Help the Living: Guest Lecture by Professor Prabhat Jha

How can understanding the causes of death help save lives?

Reliable mortality data is essential to understanding population health, identifying preventable causes of death, and shaping effective public health policies. By examining patterns of mortality, researchers and policymakers can make informed decisions, prioritise healthcare resources, and develop interventions that improve health outcomes.

RemediumOne, in collaboration with the College of Community Physicians of Sri Lanka and the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, is pleased to host a special guest lecture by Professor Prabhat Jha, Nuffield Professor of Population Health at the University of Oxford and a world-renowned epidemiologist.

Titled ā€œCounting the Dead to Help the Living: Lessons from National Mortality Studies,ā€ the lecture will explore how large-scale mortality studies generate critical evidence to guide public health priorities, strengthen health systems, and inform life-saving interventions.

Professor Jha’s internationally recognised work in mortality research and evidence-based tobacco control highlights the importance of robust epidemiological evidence in addressing preventable deaths and informing public health policy. The session offers a valuable opportunity for healthcare professionals, researchers, academics, postgraduate trainees, and medical students to gain insights into translating population-level data into meaningful public health action.

The lecture is accredited by the Education, Training & Research Unit of the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, and carries 0.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.
