South Asia Forum for Innovations in Clinical Development
The South Asia Forum for Innovations in Clinical Development is a leading regional platform co-hosted by RemediumOne, the Clinical Trials Unit of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, and from 2025 onward, The George Institute for Global Health. The forum brings together key stakeholders from academia, regulatory authorities, and the mission-aligned clinical research industry to explore innovative and collaborative approaches to advancing clinical development in South Asia.
Why South Asia?
Home to nearly a quarter of the worldās population, South Asia faces a shared burden of public health challenges, including non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, persistent infectious diseases like dengue and tuberculosis, and growing threats linked to climate change and antimicrobial resistance. These complex challenges require collaborative, evidence-based solutions that are tailored to the specific needs and realities of the region.
A platform for regional and global collaboration
Collaboration is essential to the success of clinical research, particularly in regions facing resource constraints and complex health challenges. The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes that partnerships across academic, commercial, and healthcare sectors, and between resource-rich and resource-limited settings, must be fair and respectful, with shared responsibility for scientific quality, ethical integrity, and community benefit.
Since its launch in 2019, the South Asia Forum has served as a collaborative platform for knowledge sharing, policy dialogue, and scientific exchange. The forum features expert panels, research dissemination sessions, and open discussions focused on regionally relevant health priorities such as hypertension control, cardio-metabolic risk reduction, and dengue prevention.
